Today, Mr. Harbeck was talking about his kids that can do football and run on balance beams. Something like that. Anyway, one of them had a math problem and it was 1/2 + 1/3.
They thought the answer was 2/5. We were supposed to figure out if he was wrong or right. He was wrong. Just by drawing a picture, you can see that it's not right because 2/5 is less than 1/2 already.
Then we talked about what we needed to add fractions.
What do you need to add fractions?
-common denominator
-same size parts
One way to find the common denominator is to multiply the denominator.
We had to solve 2 other questions using pictures.
Anyway, for homework, we had to solve the following questions using the math way and the picture way.
2/3 + 1/8
1/4 +3/5
1/6 + 3/4
3/8 +1/6
5/7 + 1/2
1 1/2 + 3/4
For the next scribe, I pick Shaneille.
