Chapter One: Integer poetry

Type of poem: Tanka

Title: Adding

Adding integers,

Sometimes it's quite confusing.

When you can't answer,

You still find it amusing.

Easy task, thanks for readers.

Type of poem: Tanka

Title: The Pessimist (Subtraction)

I'm a pessimist

You'll find me the most fiercest.

Just make me happy,

And give zero pairs to me.

Then your problem will be solved...

Type of poem: Free verse

Title: Mocking Kid (partitive division)

Once upon a time,

When words doesn't rhyme,

A kid asked a question,

That will give you confusion.

He said, "Can you answer my dreading question?"

I answered back "Any question, I'm the best person!

He said mockingly, " Really?"

He took out a piece of paper, so crinkly.

Written on it is PARTITIVE DIVISION.

That sounds common.

I knew the answer right in my head.

If that kid mocks me again he would be dead.

"Partitive division is like playing a card game,

Giving equal amount of cards to your comrade."

"Now I get it, thanks!" he said leaving.

"You're welcome." I said waving.

Type of poem: Free verse

Title: The Kid of Destruction and Question (quotative division)

In the world of geniuses,

A kid caused destruction.

That caused everyone drudges.

So I went into action.

I talked to it, having no fear.

It only want to ask a question!

I listened to it with both ears.

It said, "Six divided by two!"

I know the answer in my head too.

It said, "Answer it using quotative division."

I replied, "No problem, I learned this in grade two!"

"You just have to write a sentence like this...

... How many twos are in six?"

"Oh, so it's like finding how many twos can fit in six?" it said.

" You got it." I pled.

" Thank you very much!" It said.

"Your welcome." I replied.

So, then it fled...

Far way to cause destruction.

Type: Cinquain

Title: Theorem (The Rule for Multiplying Integers/ Mel's Rockpile Theorem)

Theorem

Helpful, easy

Creating, proving, answering

Helps you understand better

Principle

Chapter Two: Script

Part One:

Larten: How's it going?

Arra: I'm fine, except for one thing.

Larten: What is it, I'll be happy to help.

Arra: I forgot how to combine like terms and distributive property.

Larten: I'll teach you.

Arra: n+ 3 -5n +12

Larten: I'll let you answer it first.

Arra: I think the answer is -6n + 15

Larten: -4n + 15

Arra: What's my mistakes and steps?

Larten: First, you have to circle the like terms, then rewrite the statement. Finally, simplify.

Arra: You forgot to tell me my mistakes.

Larten: You forgot to take the negative sign with the five. So instead of -5n and n it's 5n and n.

Part Two

Arra: Now let's move on to the distributive property.

Larten: Come on I don't have time!

Arra: I'm hurrying!

Larten: Guess what's the answer first.

Arra: 12n+ 10

Larten: First, identify the terms, then multiply the terms.

Arra: Ok then.

Larten: I think that you only multiplied 4 and 3n, you forgot to multiply 8 and four. So, you probably added 8 and 2.

Arra: It's so easy!

Larten: You're welcome.

Arra: Bye!

Chapter 2:Combining like terms and the Distributive property

Watson and Holmes were friends and they working in their algebra subject.

Watson:
How are you today?
Holmes:
I am fine. How about you?
Watson:
I am having problem with our algebra subject.
Holmes: Oh! about combining like terms and the distributive property?
Watson: Yes that's it. My answer on the first question n+3-5n+12 is -6n+15. Am I correct?
Holmes:
I don't think that's the correct answer. You have to combine integers with same constant or variable.n-5n is -4n.3+12 is 15. The correct answer is -4n+15.
Watson:
Oh! I get it. What about the second problem?
Holmes:
It is about the distributive property.2+4(3n+8).What is your answer to that question?
Watson: I think the answer is 12n+10.Am I wrong or right on this one?
Holmes:
I've got different answer than you have.
Watson:
What is it and how are you able to arrive with the correct answer?
Holmes: It is simple. Just simplify first the ones in the parenthesis. In this case ,simplify first 4(3n+8)which means you must multiply those inside the parenthesis by 4,which will give you 4(3n)+4(8) or 12n+32 , then you combine with the remaining integer which on this case is 2.You add 2 and 32 which is 34 then add 12n.So the answer must be 12n +34.
Watson:Oh! I see what went wrong with my answer I only multiply 4 by 3n and just added 2 with 8.I should have multiply 8 by 4 then add it to 2. It is great to have a conversation with you.Now I know what is the proper procedure in combining like terms as well as how to work about distributive property thank you Holmes.
watch this..

Chapter 3

I choose to do this questions:

Additive- 3+x=9
You had to remember that you have to do what you've done in the other side to the other side..

Divisive-

Multiplicative-
Subtractive- -4=-9+y
+9-4=+9-9+y
5=y
-4=-9+y
-4=-9+5
-4=-4

Chapter 4
We have to do a movie or a video in a group and I am in a 3
with Any and Lance and this are,our video I hope you enjoy it.

This afternoon we are and our teacher told us about The Great Big Book of Algebra
other years this was called a Growing Post. And this year Mr. H. called it The Great Big Book of Algebra. It's inspiration came from the cartoon named Stanley Tiger Tales.

The Great Big Book of Algebra
In this activity Mr. H. said that we have to write 5 integers poems. The poems were:
  • Adding Integers
  • Subtracting integers
  • Partitive Division
  • Quotative Division and The "Rule for Multiplying" integers(Ron's rule,Pratt's law and Mel's Rockpile)
This activity was due on Friday December the 5th this activity must be published and not be save in draft. And we should have the all materials to complete this assignment.

You should have a three types of poetry in the first chapter and these are :

Haiku: Haiku was the type of Japanese poetry and it combines with form, content, and language that is meaningful, yet it compact form.Other themes have nature, feelings,or experiences.Haiku poetry has a three lines in length. In first line their are 5 syllables and in the second line their are 7 syllables in the third line is also 5 syllables.

Tanka: And Tanka was also a type of Japanese poetry, and Tanka is almost like an extension of Haiku poetry. And the Tanka was a 5 lines poem.

Line 1 and line 3 are 5 syllables.And the lines 2,4 and 5 are 7 syllables.

Cinquian: Cinquian are 5 lines in length. And the Cinquian poems have a two main forms.
Ex. #1:
Line 1:One word topic (noun)
Line 2:Two describing words (adjectives)
Line 3: Three action words (verbs)
Line 4:A four-word phrase
Line5:A synonym or equivalent for the topic

Ex.2:
Line1:Topic (2 syllable word or words)
Line2:4 syllables describing topic
Line3:6 syllables expressing action
Line4:8 syllables describing feeling
Line5:2 syllables-a synonym for the topic

Free verse poetry was free from the other rules in poetry. And the poet may use a rhyming words but the poem does not have to rhyme.A Free Verse poem may be just written in a sentence that was artistically laid out on page or pages of words.Free verse forms are separate,or split, phrases and it should have a words between the lines. And the punctuation absent or it can be use to place emphasis on specific words. The object of the Free verse Is to use colorful words ,puntuation, and word placement to convey meaning to the reader.

Picture:A picture poem, is a poem made of letters or words which created in actual picture, form on the page.Like when your subject was a kite and the picture should be like a kte or a symbol like a kite.

Diamante:Diamante is an Italian word that in the english was diamond. The poetic form takes the shape of diamante when it's complete. And this type of poem has a 7 lines.
There are 2 types of pattern to choose from.In the first one it develops one topic only.
And in the part 2 starts out with one theme and in the middle begins to move toward to an opposite theme.
PATTERN ONE:
Line 1:Choose a topic (noun)
Line2:Use to describing words (adjectives)
Line3:Use 3 action words (verbs)
Line4:Use a four-word phrase capturing some feeling about the topic
Line5:Use three action words (verbs)
Line6: Use two describing words(adjectives)
Line 7: Use a synonym for an ending word(noun)

PATTERN TWO:
Line1:Choose a noun as your title and an opposite word (an antonym) for the ending word of your poem
Line2: Use two adjectives(describing words) for the title (line1)
Line 3: Use three verbs (action words or ``ing`` words for the title
Line 4: Use two words to express the title noun - then two words to express the opposite ending noun. The theme changes in this line.
Line5: Choose three action words for the ending noun
Line7: Use one word-the antonym (opposite)you decided upon in line one

This ends chapter one.Good luck!!! to us and have a happy poetry writing

Today in class we started ALGEBRA... dun dun dun.. actually its not that hard. We made a new little booklet about it too. We labeled the booklet "My Algebra Words." Mr.Harbeck also gave us our pink booklet about algebra.I'm now going to try to explain what we learned about algebra as best as I can, I'm going to use the example we did in class today. Here is an ALGEBRAIC EXPRESSION (an algebra question that can have many answers.)

Some other ways to say this question are: a number plus six

unknown number plus six

a number plus positive six (there is a pattern)

In this question n is the VARIABLE (a letter that represents a number)

This is not a completed equation yet, there are many answers to this question and you can only have one. It should be like this

Now that there is an answer to the question, this algebraic expression has turned into an ALGEBRAIC EQUATION (an algebra question with only one answer).

Some other ways to say this equation are: a number plus six equals fourteen

a number AND six is fourteen.

Now you just subtract 6 from 14 and you have the answer

That is what we learned about how to do algebra today.

We wrote that example on the first square. On the second-sixth square was part of our homework. On the second square we wrote all of the different adding words. On the third square we wrote all of the different subtraction words. On the fourth square we wrote all of the different multiplying words. On the fifth square we wrote all of the different dividing words. Finally on the sixth square we wrote all of the different words for equals.

Our homework today was the first ten questions on the first page of the pink booklet, and the five squares on our "My algebra words" booklet.

I found an algebra website and a video that might be helpful.

Chapter 1: Integer Poetry

Adding Integers

Haiku

Think money for this
Remember: have, owe, pairs, tiles
Number lines work too

Subtracting Integers

Haiku

Add the opposite
No such thing as subtraction
In other words: add

Partitive Division

Tanka

2 goes into 6
It equals positive 3
In partitive, it's
How many equal parts are
in 2 groups when we have 6?

Quotative Division

Tanka

Quotative would be
"How many 2s are in 6?"
The answer is 3.
P.S. That's positive 3
Question: 2 goes into 6

The "Rule for Multiplying"

Free Verse

When there's an odd
Amount of negative
Integers
The product
Is negative.
And if there is
An even amount
of negative integers
The product
Is positive.

And its rules.

Chapter 2: Combining like terms and the Distributive Property
(Hamster [or at least I think they might be hamsters] version)

Cinderella: I wonder what the answer to n+3-5n+12 is. I think it's -6n+15.
Edward Cullen: No, it isn't. You've made a mistake.
Cinderella: How would YOU know?
Edward Cullen: Because... I'm Edward Cullen.
Cinderella: That's so unfair. Not EVERYONE can be you.
Edward Cullen: So let's talk about this problem. Why do you think it's -6n+15?
Cinderella: I think the question should be why shouldn't it be -6n+15.
Edward Cullen: I see, well let's start from the beginning then.
Cinderella: You're not listening to me are you?
Edward Cullen: You're right. Let's circle the variables since the n is first.
Cinderella: I'm not saying anything about that though.
Edward Cullen: Hey, you did this part correctly. Good job. You even took the sign with you.
Cinderella: ... Fine, I'll play along.
Edward Cullen: So rewrite it.
Cinderella: n-5n+3+12. Let's speed this up, I have a ball to get to. I get it. n-5n next. I don't see how I'm wrong though.
Edward Cullen: What do you think n-5n is?
Cinderella: -6n
Edward: WRONG. Try again. Why do you think it's -6n?
Cinderella: If you add n to 5n, it's 6n plus the negative equals -6n.
Edward: That's where you're wrong. n and -5n equals -4n. You were so close. You get an F.
Cinderella: Well let's see you try to answer THIS. 2+4(3n+8)
Edward: 12n+34. Let me "guess", you thought it was 12n+10? Oh, so wrong. Don't deny it, I'm a mind reader. You got 12n right. You identified the terms and for that I'm proud but you didn't multiply the terms correctly. You added 2 to 8? That's stupid. It's 4 multiplied by 8. I hope you know that's 32. After that, you bring down the 2 and I already told you to simplify before because you only need one variable and one constant but I guess you never listen what with your tea parties and all. Anyway it'd be 2+12n+32 which simplified would be 12n+34 and I did that all in my HEAD.
Cinderella: ... You talk too much.

How are you today Pakund,Tata said.Pakundo answered good. You Tata how are you today,Pakundo said.Tata answered I'm find.Tata he was good at math. Pakundo and my friend dicided to study for algebra test."Hey Tata, I wa wondering....... Is n+3-5n+12 simplified,-6n+15?No your wrong Tata said.First Pakundo you have to circle the n and -5n and the integers and we simplified the answer is -4n+12....I will give you another question,Tata said. What's the question Pakundo Tata said ,Pakundo write the question in the scrap paper. Then he combined like term. It looked like this:n+3-5n+12(His were in basket) Pakundo solve the question and he get the answer the answer is wrong,Here's what he get.......-6n+15 . I will give another question, Tata said here's the question 2+4(3n+8) simplified 12n+10.Am I wrong or I am right Pakundo said,No your wrong Tata,Why,Pakundo said because first you bring down the 2 then you have to times 4 to 3n and 4 to 8,Then we simplified the answer is 2n+34.Do you understand now Tata said ,Yes Tata Pakundo said.Thank You Tata for helping me to understand the algebra thingy,Pakundo said. Tata answer to Pakundo no problem... Pakundo happy because he understand how to solve Combining like terms and the Distributive Property....???? THANK YOU FOR READING..

Chapter#2-Combining like terms and the Distributive property

Spy:Hi

Ninja:Hi!

Spy:Can you answer a question? If you get it wrong .....I'll have to ask you another question!

Ninja:whats the question?

Spy:n+3-5n+12

(Long Pause)

Ninja:OK, I think I have the answer, you just have to simplify the question, right?

Spy:Right!

Ninja:OK, then the answer is -6n+15.

Spy:Um, that's not the correct answer.

Ninja:Yes it is!

Spy:Did you combine like terms?

Ninja:No

Spy:Then that's probably why you got the wrong answer! Here I'll show you.
First you have to put the variables together, for example the n, and the -5n.

Spy:Then you put the integers (constants) together, for example the 3, and the 12. Now your question should be like this. n-5n+3+12.

Ninja: Oh now I see what I did wrong.

Spy:Now you combine the n and the -5n, and that should give you -4n, because the n is positive, so you would be adding a positive to a negative 5.

Spy:Now you just add the 3 and the 12, and that should give you 15.

Ninja:Oh

Spy:Yeah, so you should get -4n+15.

Ninja:Now I get it! Thanks for the help

Spy:No problem, now I have to go..... save the world! But I will be back to ask that other math question!

Ninja:OK, bye!

Script#2

Spy:I'm back!

Ninja: Hi again!

Spy: I have your other question for you to answer.

Ninja: OK, bring it on!

Spy: 2+4(3n+8)

Ninja: I know the answer to that one!

Spy: Me too, it's 12n+10!

Ninja: HAHAHA no it's not! You didn't use the Distributive property, did you?

Spy:No.

Ninja: OK here's what you should have done. First of all you should just forget that the 2 is even there... put it in the back of your mind for a little while. Now you multiply the 4 and the 3n, and you should get...... 12n. Now you multiply the 4 and the 8, so that you get 32. You now bring back the 2 and combine it with the 32 to get 34. Since there is nothing to combine with the 12n, you just leave it alone. Finally, you have 12n+34... the RIGHT answer!

Spy: OK now I see what I did wrong.

Spy: you really are good at math!

Ninja: Yep, now I have to go to my secret ninja training.

Spy: I see I see, OK then bye!

Ninja: See you soon!
