Azra's Fraction post
Adding fraction:
Mario is training for the track team. he ran 4 1/4 miles on monday, 5 9/10 miles on wednesday,
about how far he run altogather in two days?
1) 4 1/4 + 5 9/10
= 17/4 + 59/10
= 170/40 + 236/40
= 406/40
= 203/20
= 1 3/20
2) 1 1/8 + 1/2
= 9/8 + 1/2
= 18/16 + 8/16
= 26/16
= 13/8
Subtracting Fraction:
A big burger has 1/4 pound of meat. A super burger has 1/3 pound of meat. How much more meat is used for the super burger?
1) 1/3 - 1/4
= 4/12 - 3/12
= 1/12
2) 3/4 - 3/8
= 24/32 - 12/32
= 12/32
= 3/8
Multiplying Fraction :
1) One week Kristi work 3 day at a department store for 3 1/2 each day. She was paid $9 a hour.
how many hours did Kristi work that week?
3 1/2 x 3
= 3 x 2 + 1 = 7/2 x 3 = 21/2 = 10 1/2
2) A sailboat is sailing at 8 1/2 km. If the weather condition and the current do not change, how far will the sailboat travel in 11/3 hour?
8 1/2 x 1 1/3
= 8 x 2 + 1= 17 3 x 1 + 1 = 4
17/2 x 4/3 = 68/6
= 11 2/6
Dividing Fraction:
1) 12/5 / 3/2
= 24/5
= 1 15/9
= 1 5/3
2) 9 1/6 / 11/1
= 55/6 / 11/1
= 55/66
= 5/6
