Ok this is what happened in class today:

We played this game with a die in a die. I know some of you might not understand but I actually found a picture on google :


Okay, here is how you play the game:

Wait! Before you play answer this question - Is this game fair? why?
Okay heres how you play:

1. you have a player and an opponent
2. both players start with 10 points
3. only the player gets to roll the die
4. if the player rolls a 7 he gains 3 points and the opponent loses 3 points
5. if the player rolls anything different from a 7, the player loses 1 point and the opponent gains 1 point
6. you are only allowed 10 rolls
7. if either the player or opponent loses all of his or her points, they automatically lose
8. play 10 games to see who wins the most

Okay, now that you know how to play, you have to answer these questions:
1. Who wins the most? Why?
2. Think Probability
3. Is this game fair?

Okay I think thats what we mostly did in class because we had bus ridership in the middle of class so we missed a little bit :)

Today, in class, we played a game and I think it was called 'Is This Fair?' It didn't exactly have a title. Anyway, before playing we had to read the rules and have an answer to the question 'is this game fair?'


How you play is there's a PLAYER and an OPPONENT. They both have 10 points. There's a pair of dice. That's 2 of them.


The player is the only one that can use the dice. According to Mr. Harbeck, the opponent just smiles and records the scores.



You roll the dice 10 times.

If the PLAYER happens to roll a 7, the PLAYER gets 3 of the OPPONENT's points.

If the PLAYER rolls anything else, the OPPONENT gets 1 point from the PLAYER.

We were supposed to do this game 10 times and see who had the most wins.


--We were called to Bus Ridership--


After the bus ridership, we were asked:


Who won most? Why?
Think probability.
We were asked a second time, is this game fair?

We're supposed to write the answer in our "handy-dandy" notebooks... I think. Either there or on the back of the paper of the game.


I choose Kristin to do the scribe tomorrow!

Time for Scribes

Mr. Kuropatwa introduced me to the world of Scribe Posts. It is an essential part of the Grade 8 Math Classroom. You will be expected to write one scribe post every 30 classes or about 4 a year. That doesn't sound like to much does it.

A Scribe post is

The assignment is simply to post a brief summary of what happened in class each day. A different student is responsible for the daily scribe post and they end their post by choosing the next scribe. The first scribe is a volunteer. The teacher's daily involvement is limited to updating a post called The Scribe List which is at the top of the links list in the sidebar of the class's blog.



To complete a scribe post the student must

Write a brief summary of what we learned in class today. Include enough detail so that someone who was away sick, or missed class for any other reason, can catch up on what they missed. Over the course of the semester, the scribe posts will grow into the textbook for the course; written by students for students. Remember that as each of you write your scribe posts. Ask yourself: "Is this good enough for our textbook? Would a graphic or other example(s) help illustrate what we learned?" And remember, you have a global audience, impress them.

Mean

  • the mean is the mathematical average of a set of numbers. The average is calculated by adding up two or more scores and dividing the total by the number of scores.




Median

  • The median is the score located at the center of a distribution.





Mode


  • The mode is the most frequently occuring score in a distribution.
