Today in class, we didn't do that much work, we only have to finish one Assignment/Homework.
Here's our Assignment/Homework :

I'll do one of the Questions, (Blacktop).

Both have 6/20, which means they both have the same Blacktops.
Thanks for reading my Scribe! And for the next Scribe I chose Lance.

Pythagorean Theorem

(1) Comments

Artifacts :

Pythagoras,
The first pure mathematitian. Born on Samos, a greek island in Aegean and died about 500 BC in Metapontum, Lucania. Proved the converse theorem.

Vocabulary:

  • Legs - (A and B) The sides that make up 90 degree angle.
  • Hypotenuse - (c) The longest side of the Right Triangle.
  • R.A.T. - Right Angled Triangle.
  • Greek - person that is living in ancient mordern greek.
  • theorem - a theorotical proposition, statement, or formula embodying something to be proved from otheres propositions or formulas.

LEGS and HYPOTENUSE :

R.A.T. :

Shapes, Formulas, and Pythagoras .

< These are the Pythagoras shapes. Square, Right Triangle, and a Rectangle.
To solve these Pythagoras, First you would have to draw or copy the question, and put the 90 degree in.
Second, you put a, b, and c in the triangle. You can put a or b anywhere you want as long as that you put them where the "Legs" are ( not the long side ).

Third, you right the formula, then replace it by a number. For example, 'a squared' turns into blank, because you don't know what that is yet ... 'b squared' turns into '8 squared', and 'c squared' turns into '10 squared' ... gets ?
Forth, you make 'b squared' disapear ... by making it into a zero pair so you would put '-8 squared', and you will also have Balance and that means that you also have to put '-8 squared' on the other side too. So that would be 'a squared' equals '10 squared' minus '8 squared'.

Fifth, you would change '10 squared' into 10x10 and '8 squared' into 8x8, you should also put it in brackets so you would get mixed up. And you don't change 'a squared into axa, you would just leave it. So now you have, (10x10) - (8x8).

Sixth, you would have solve (10x10) - (8x8). So 10x10=100 and 8x8=64, and now you have 'a squared' equals one hundred minus sixty-four. 100 - 64 = 36, and after that you would have 'a squared' equals thirty-six.

Seventh, you would have to square root it. So the answer would be a = 6.
And that's how you get the answer.

Problem 2 ,

- each of these squares are 3cm.
- and it says that 3cm squares of eight, so 3x8= 24.
- so now you would need to find what 'C' is.

Pythagoras Movie 'C' , 'A' and 'B' .

Well that's all for today , thanks for reading! (:

Pay it Forward

5:15 PM

(2) Comments

We watched a movie called "pay it forward" at school, its about a person making someones life.
And we were asked to do the same thing in the holidays. So here's what I did.

I decided to help one of our family friends and my mom. One of our family friends were close to where we live, their 2 houses away, so I decided to help them. I asked my mom if I could babysit her daughter named pheobe, [fee-bee] and she said I could! So in December 22-29 , I was babysitting pheobe. She goes to Sargent too, and her little cousins.

At 10:00 am, my mom told me that her cousin is coming here, so I will be babysitting 2 kids, then my mom told me to do the dishes for her. [so I was kinda like a maid~] . About 10:35, pheobe's cousin was here, and her name is Jasmine.

Jasmine is a shy person, and Pheobe is a loud person. And my mom was sleeping upstairs [Pheobe, Jasmine and I were downstairs, by the way] . After about 15 minutes, Pheobe told me that she was bored, and Jasmine said nothing ... So I told Pheobe what she wants to do, and she said to watch "Saw 5" on the computer! "Ummm... I think that's too scary for you..." I said. "No, " Pheobe said. "Why don't you watch that treehouse or something ?" I said. "I don't wanna watch that anymore cause that's too corny!" Pheobe said.

I didn't wanted her to watch Saw 5, because she was only ... 3 or 4 years old, so I told her that she too young to watch Saw 5, then she said "okay".
So I decided to let them play on my piano and my guitar, play somthing on the computer that is two players, or take pictures.

Then at 8:00 pm, her dad was here to pick her up. Jasmine was still quiet, and Pheobe started to cry, because she still wanted to stay and play and stuff. I felt sorry for Pheobe so I told my mom if I could give them my old, small clothes that I've never wore, and my mom said yes. So I gave Pheobe my old, small clothes then she stopped crying, and started getting ready to head home.
After all that babysitting, I felt tired but happy :) .
Question: Can a person make a difference ?
Answer: of course , because when you help other people, you can make them happy!

    Chapter 2 :

Okay this movie is going to be about two girls discussing about the two "impossible" questions, and a girl, name Ms. Suzan Quenard, talks about the two "impossible (and that NO ONE could answer EXCEPT Suzan!)" questions. So yeah ... enjoy! ;)

Red girl: Good morning my fellow Canadians!

This is the SPS Channel, today we are going to discuss about how a teacher got the wrong answer, with Ms. Suzan Quenard.

Dark Blue girl: Good morning!

Red girl: So What was the problem of the question?

Dark Blue Girl: The problem is that the question,

n+3-5n+12 is very tricky to answer

Red Girl: The audience think that the answer is -6n+15.

Is this answer right or wrong? And why ?

Dark Blue Girl: Well first the right answer is 4n+15

Red girl: how did you get that answer?

Dark Blue girl: well first I rearrange them like

numbers and letters putting in a basket,

so it'll be organize. So I put n-5n on one side and 3+12 on the other side,

so n-5n is 4n and 3 + plus is 15 , soo.... the answer is 4n+15.

Red girl: Can you tell me how the other people got -6n+15?

Dark Blur girl: Sure. Some people might of added n+5n instead of n+ -5n.

Red girl: Oohhh... I get it! Well thats it for today folks, see you next time at SPS Channel.

part one ... "SPS CHANNEL" (short)

part two movie:
"SPS CHANNEL part 2" (short)

Red Girl: Good morning again folks .. And welcome back! Today we are going to discuss about a new math question. with Ms. Suzan Quenard.

Dark Blue girl: Good morning!

Red Girl: So ... About that question 2 + 4 (3n+ 8 ) , can you tell us the answer and how you got the answer?

Dark Blue girl: Well sure! Some people got 12n + 10, but its not the right answer , because they must of skipped one step, like they added 2 + 8 , when your not suppose to .

Red Girl: Then how are you suppose to do it.

Dark Blue girl: First you times 4 to 3n and that makes 12n. . . then you times 4 and 8 together... and that makes 32 , then you add 2 and 32 together and that makes 34 ... so the answer would be 12n + 34.

Red Girl: Ohh so the brackets means multiplying ?

Dark Blue girl: yup

Red girl: Ohh ... well that makes sense ... alot! Well that is it for today ... see you next time on SPS Channel.

Dark Blue girl: Bye everyone!

Elmane's Interger story

1:26 PM

(3) Comments

Part 1

One afternoon there was a teenager named Charmaiy, she loves to add intergers, she could answer any question as long that it is an interger question. She was walking home from school when all the sudden she saw this little kid named Jayj. Jayj love doing math, he was the most smartest little kid in grade 5. Charmaiy was shocked to hear that, so she demand him to have a bet in intergers.

The little kid said "okay, fine. If I win you have to fix my bike or give me $50.00 so I can pay someone to fix my bike, deal?"
"okay, deal!" said Charmaiy.
"Next week on Saturday, be ready! Its going to be on intergers!" said Charmaiy in a fearful voice.
"okay, this bet is going to be easy!" said the little kid in a wierd look.
Then walked away from a different direction heading home. Later on, when she was at home, she started heading upstairs to her bedroom and started finishing her homework.
She always do the homework in math then the others. After a few hours, she started heading downstairs with her little notebook to practice on while she eats. She kept studying day after day. In the next morning she was getting ready for school. Once she left, she saw the little kid again, Charmaiy stared at the little kid, and so as the little kid. They were like enemies, teenager vs. the little kid. She walked pass him and kept walking, in her mind she knew that the little boy was going to lose the bet, because his just a little kid. She was laughing so load that the all neighbours were looking her strangly. She kept walking and kept her mouth shut. A few minutes later, she was at school and do her work. Every lunch hour she would go outside and study about intergers. She made the bet so can prove that she is "The Smart One".

A week later on Saturday.
"Today's the day!" said Charmaiy.

She went to the little boys front yard and waited for the little kid to come out of the door. A few minutes, the boy went outside and walked towards her, and said "Today's the day". "I know!" said Charmaiy.

The little boy's grandmother knew that we were having a bet, so she wrote the questions to make sure they don't cheat. His grandmother gave us the sheet that has 1 question in it.

"What the... theres only one easy question on the paper!!" said Charmaiy in a confusing voice.
"What did you say honey?". The little boy's grandmother said.
"She can't realy hear you, because she death and she has hearing problems, so.. yeah". The little boy said.
"Ohh... then nevermind then". Said Charmaiy.
"Did you say something dear?". Boy's grandmother said.
"I SAID NEVER MIND!!!!". said Charmaiy in a very loud voice.
"Just... just... for get about that, okay? And chill..." said the little boy.
"(sigh)" said Charmaiy.
"OKAY LETS BEGIN!!" said the little boy beside his grandmother's ears.
"Ohh.. okay dear" said the little boys grandmother.

Her grandmother gave them the big piece of sheet that only has one easy question on it.

"Ready... set... go...!!" said the little boy's grandmother in a very quiet voice.
The question was:

Charmaiy and Jayj begins writting their answer on the peice of paper and telling how they got the answer.
A few moments later, Charmaiy and Jayj were done and the told the old lady that they were done. The little boy's grandmother can tell that they were done, so she started heading to where they are and checks their paper.

"The answer is +2 right!!" said the little boy.
"No... the answer is -2!!" said Charmaiy.
"Ohh be quiet, (cough) the answer is .... (cough) answer is... (cough)is... IS...(cough) ...is" said the little boy's grandmother.

They had their fingers crossed hoping that one of them have the right answer.
"So... what is it??" Charmaiy said.
"IS...(cough)" said the little boy's grandmother
"Tell us!!" said the little boy
"The answer is ... (more coughing) is..." said the little boy's grandmother.
"Ohh come on grandma!! say it!!"said Charmaiy.
"(more coughing) .. ohh be patience, im just going to get some water." said the little boy's grandmother.
"(sigh)" said Charmaiy and so as the little boy.

A few minutes later, the old lady came outside and starts heading to where there at.
"Okay, the answer is ... ohh wait i think i left the fridge open." said the little boy's grandmother.
"Ohh.. come on!!" said Charmaiy.
"Ohh im just kidding dear (laugh)" said the little boy's grandmother.
"But anyways, the answer is ... +2!!" said the little boy's grandmother.

Charmaiy started jumping in full of joy, Charmaiy showed Jayj how she got the right answer and how she got the right answer. Charmaiy showed Jayj her paper.

And heres how she got the answer:
I drawed 4 negatives and 2 positives squares, and line them up like this, then I have 2 positives so need 2 negatives to make a Zero Pair, and the 2 negatives is left and that would be my answer (-2).

So (-4)+(+2)= -2

Today in class we worked in our yellow booklet page 43 and 44. These questions that im doing is in page 44 , F. questions 1-5.

1. The temperature starts at -25 ○C, drops 13 ○C, rises 3 ○C and rises 8 ○C.

Question #1 we did it in class, heres how we did it :

-25, -13, +3, +8

First you have to group the positives and the negatives together. Then we put (-25)+(-13)+(+3)+(+8)=? . Then we added the positive and the negative numbers seperatly. So (-25)+(-13)=-38 (negative) . And (+3)+(+8)= +11 (positive). And added (+11)+(-38)= -27.

(-25)+(-13) = -38 and (+3)+(+8) = +11
(-38) + (+11)
equals= -27

(-25)+(-13)+(+3)+(+8) = -27
(-38) + (+11) = -27
-27 = -27

2. A person starts with $350, earns $122, spends $115, earns $183 and spends $29.

+350, +122, -115, +183, -29

For this question I kinda did it in a different way. First I grouped the positive numbers and the negative numbers, I also typed in positive and negative so you'll understand more. I also put +350, + 122, -115, +183, -29 so it would be easier. I put the positive and the negative orderly and add them. Then when i found out the answer for positive and negative, I added +655 and -86 and get +741.

positive.....(+350)+(+122)+(+183) = +655

negative....(-115)+(-29) = -86
(-86)+(+655) = +741
3. Gloria is 52 kg. She gains 5 kg, loses 7 kg, gains 9 kg and loses 14 kg.
For this question I did the same thing as the second question. I grouped the positive and negative numbers. And added again.
+52, +5, -7, +9, -14
positive.....(+52)+(+5)+(+9) = +66
negative....(-7)+(-14) = -21
(+66)+(-21) = +45
4. The temperature starts at 32 ○c, drops 8 ○, drops 3 ○, rises 9 ○ and drops 12 ○.
For this questions I did the same thing as
+32, -8, -3, +9, -12
positive....(+32)+(+9) = +41
negative...(-8)+(-3)+(-12) = -23
(+41)+(-23) = +14

5. A submarine starts at sea level, dives down 135 m, dives another 77 m, and rises 72 m.

-135, -77, +72

For this question I put (-135)+(-77) and added them and i got -212, then i added (-212)+(+72) and got -140.

(-135)+(-77)=-212

(-212)+(+72)= -140
