Today in class we first went over the homework from yesturday but i won't do them because Aleiah already did.

Then we got todays homework:

Also we got word problems i will do 2 of them:

When Betty opens the cake box, Betty finds that 3/8 of the cake has been squished. Luckly she finds half a container of ice cream in the freezer. If she molds it properly she will have enough to make the cake whole again.

3/8 -cake

1/2 - ice cream

3/8 + 1/2 =

3/8 + 4/8=

= 7/8 !

next question

Betty is making punch for the party goers. She needs 3/5 L of orange juice, 1/2 L of lemonade and 1/4 L of Grenadine. How much liquid is in the punch?

3/5 -orange juice

1/2 - Lemonade

1/4 Grenadine

3/5 + 1/2+ 1/4 =

12/20 + 10/20+ 5/20=

= 27/20

change to mixed = 1 and 7/20

Thanks and please leave a comment. For the next scribe i choose Lina! For people who don't know who that is, it's Zerlina.

Pythagorean Theorum

7:01 PM

(1) Comments

To start our assignment we watched videos on Pythagoras and the Pythagorean Theorum. Then we took notes.

Pythagoras was born in the year 569 b.c. in Greece. He was known as the father of mathematics. He also was the first vegan, today called a vegetation. Pythagoras knew alot about the earth such as that the earth titled on its axis, and the seasons were due to that. He also became fluent in egyptian Hieroglyphics, along with beliving in rebirth, after death something the egyptians belived in. Pythagoras along with all that prooved the Pythagorean Theorum, which is still used today , a(squared) + b(squared) = c ( squared). A very smart man.

These artifacts are related by: The Triangle has 1- 90 degree angle along with 2 acute angles. The triangle has 180 degrees total.

The square has 4- 90 degree angles and no other angles, the square has 360 degrees total. Therefore 4 triangles makes a square because 4- 90 degree angles makes 360 degrees, which makes a square. 90+90+90+90= 360 degrees. This is the Pythagorean Theorum.

This all is related to Pythagoras ( the man in the picture above) because he is the one who did not invent the theorum but made proof that it was true. The Equation is the Pythagorean theorum. Which he proved.

Vocabulary

Legs- Legs are the two shortest sides on the triangle sides a and b. The legs also make up the 90 degrees
Hypotenuse-Is the longest side of a triangle , side c.
R.A.T- R.A.T is the triangle it stands for Right Angled Triangle, any triangle with 90 degrees
Greek-A person of greek origin. Pythagoras was greek.
Theorum-Theorum is the second word of the Pythagoraean Theorum which was proven by Pythagoras.

The shapes are a triangle, and a square. The triangle is half the square. The triangle has 2 legs side a and b, and a hypotenuse side c. The square has 4 equal sides, and 4 , 90 degree angles. The formula a(squared) + b(squared)= c(squared). We care in grade 8 because we use the formula , and pythagoras made proof of it.

Word Problem:

Find the Perimeter of the orange triangle.

First I found the square root of 914cm so i would know the side lengths of the square.

There is the formula ----->

Sorry if it's small i couldn't make it any bigger.

Second Word Problem

The first thing i did was draw a square and find out the side lengths

Then here is the formula i did to find out the hypotenuse side c.

Then here is our first video explaining how you get side c.

pythagoras proof 1 from Louie Angela on Vimeo.

Here is our second video on finding side a.

pythagoras proof 2 from Louie Angela on Vimeo.

Hopefully this adds to what you already know about Pythagoras, and the Pythagorean Theorum. Sorry if theres any mistakes , and please leave a comment.

Today in class we were doing word problems. *Our next test has alot of word problems*
Some main things in word problems : You always have to have a sentance. If theres units in the problem the units must be in the sentance. You have to say what the N or X means or represents.
Here are some examples we did in class:
Number 14 on page 44
Start with a sentance : The number is 70
Let N - means number

We also did this example from page 45:
Start with a sentance : Each Chair weighs 9 lbs
* You have to have the units**
Let C- means chair
Then we have to do pg 43 , 44 ,45 and 46 all the word problems
Here I did one from each page :
Pg 43
Sentance:The number is 6
Let N -means number
Here is an example from page 44
Sentance:The Number is -1
Let N -means number

Now from page 45
Sentance There was 8 hours of labor.
Let N means hours.

And Last Page 46
Sentance: The car was towed 29 miles.
Let N -means labor.
For Tomorrows Scribe i chose Simran. Remeber the test has lots of word problems.
Thanks and please leave a comment :)

Pay It Forward

How I Paid It Forward

For my act of kindness I baked a loaf of bread and made a card. I delivered it to my neighbour, across the street. I baked them just a loaf of white bread and made them a card. Inside the card I wrote With this loaf of bread I bake. A great big smile on your face I wish to make. Please accept this gift from me to you. I ask you to "Pay It Forward" to make someone smile too..

It felt good to do something for someone. Especially since they will pay it forward to someone else , to make them feel better. My neighbour really liked the bread and thought it was a great pay it forward idea. I told him if he will pay it forward, he said yes.

So you asked Can one person make a difference? I believe that one person can make a difference. Because If one person would do something nice , It would make someone else feel better which would be the start of "Pay It Forward". That person that someone helped would fell better about themselves and go on to make others feel better. If one person takes two minutes to do something it could start something as big as "Pay It Forward"

Sammy: Hello
Seba: Hello young Sammy
Seba You have come here for help I assume
Sammy: no no I just wanted some cheese…
Sammy: OF COURSE I NEED HELP!
Seba : alright no need to have a hedgehog
Sammy: n+3-5n+12….. stumped right!
Seba : Ahh that’s quite tricky. ..
Sammy: I knew I could could get you … im smarter haha I’m smarter
Seba Now No interrupting girl
Sammy: The answer is -6n+15
Seba: ahh mistakes .. your so young
Sammy: well smarty pants whats the answer?
Seba: -4n+15
Sammy: no way , Invalid
Seba: Yes but you see when you have a negative and a positive it makes zero
Sammy: Oh I see I added the N as a negative
Sammy: Well hot shot Figure out this one 2+4(3n+8)
Sammy: It’s 12n+10
Seba: Ahh No young child …. It’s 12n+34
Sammy: But I multi then add it’s all a blur now
Seba: Yes you started out right 4 times 3n .. but then you added the 2 to the 8 you must mutiply the 4 to the 8 then you have 2+12n+32 add the 2 to the 32 and you got it!
Sammy: Well… You know I can still eat more hot dogs then you , and I can run faster!
Seba I shall not participate in your childlike games Good bye
Seba: Before I leave I’m still smarter then you!

Today In class we first had a Quiz on adding and subtracting integers pretty much everything we learned not including multiplying integers. Here was one of the questions on the quiz

(-9-3) - (-21) =

This is how i answered it

(-9-3)-(-21)=

(-12) - (-21)=

But then theres an "uh oh"

(-12) + (+21)= 9

Then We went over the stuff we did yesterday.

(+6)(+2)

Then we figured out this sentence.

" When you multiply a positive integer and a positive integer the product is positive."

After that we went on to the next part, * remember the parts go counterclockwise.

We started with this question

Then For homework we had to write our own question here's mine.

Then We Moved on the the 3rd part We started with this question.

Here is the example how its done with Integer Tiles.

** The arrows mean take away ****

Then We had to make a question for homework here's mine.

The last section

(+3)(-2)=

Then we had to do a question for home work here's mine

Shaneille's Integer story

Once upon a time there was a girl named Sally. She ate a lot of cheese. She loved cheese so much that she ate all 15 pounds her mom bought for her the other day. She decieded she was going to get some cheese. But first she needed money. She got her piggy bank and smashed it, inside was this question....

After she answered that question her life savings 32.95 from grandma appered in front of her. Now she had the money she could continue her search for cheese. On the way it started to rain. She was right outside a unbrella store and walked in. The man behide the counter asked her what she needed as if it wasn't totally obvious, she was in an umbrella store. She told the man an umbrella duh! He told her if she answered this question the umbrelle would only cost 32.95....

She left the store with her brand new umbrella but no money. Sally was now tired and really wanted her cheese she needed to get money and fast. A man was standing at the edge of the street giving out flyers. Sally went and got one. The flyer said mow the lawn get 32.95! Wow she could get money to buy cheese. She ran to the house that needed the lawn mowed. The lady walked out with a lawn mower. "Answer this question and you can mow my lawn....."

An hour and half later and she was done. She had gotten her 32.95 and was on her quest once again. She was now even more tired and wanted her cheese. Sally knew it was getting late but continued her quest not knowing what time the factory closed. She was not far now about 4 blocks and she was beginning to smell the sweet smell of chedder cheese. Just then a man in big boots jumped in front of her. "Give me your cheese money!"
"No!" she yelled back
" Alright he said answer this question and i guess you may pass."

She answered the question and before he could check if it was right she was down the street. She was 1/2 a block away now and she could see the factory. She walked up to the giant door and the lady switched the sign to closed. " Wait!" she cried
The lady made a grin and said "Next time sweetheart .... next time "
To be continued...
Sally walked away slowly walking slower and slower with each step. She walked past the man in big boots who was still checking her answer. She walked past the umbrelle store, Until she was home with still know cheese. Sally was still upset when her mom got home. Her mom walked in very angry that she ate all that cheese. Her mom forgave her after 30 seconds and told her they would go to the store to buy some cheese if she answered this question.....

Her mom was amazed how fast she answered it (must have been the cheese). Her mom started the car and Sally got in. They went to the cheese factory, and the same woman was there watching them (creepy hey). They went to superstore then to walmart and finally extra foods still no cheese they passed the umbrella store where the man was trying to figure out how to close a cookie jar. They passed the man in big boots who was asking any random person how Sally answered that question. They finally got to super A foods where the had a bar of chedder cheese left. A woman at the other end of the aisle wanted that cheese too.
" This Is Bob here at the the ultimate cheese race."
(Bob talking about the rules)
" And the race is on" " Who shall win.. It's It's .." Answer this question and you'll find out
"It's Sally who won!"
Sally and her mom raced to the payout counter bought the cheese and raced home As the walked in the door Sally screamed "the CHEESE IS MOLDY!!!"
THE END!!!!

Today in class we :

We went over 3 of the questions from yesturdays math sheet

# 3 from the back page

P(E and 20)

cube has 6 sides spinner has 6 sides

6x6 =36

TPO= 36

FO/TPO =5/36 = 0.138 = 13.8 %

#4

P(13 and H)

6 sides on the cube

8 sides on the spinner

6x8=48

TPO=48

FO/TPO= 4/48=1/12=0.08= 8.3%

# 7

P(a number less than 24 and not f )

6 sides on the cube

5 sides on the spinner

6x5=30

FO/TPO= 2/5=O.4= 40%

Then after that we did textbook questions in our notebook about independent probability

TPO on their OWN!

We did question 6 together

P(blue then red)

Blue FO/TPO = 1/10

Red FO/TPO = 3/10 add together TPO is now 20 then add the top parts so the answer is 4/20 =1/5 =20%

P(red then spots )

Red FO/TPO = 3/10

Spots FO/TPO =3/10 add together =3/ 20 = 3/10 = 30%

P( strips then blue)

Strips FO/TPO = 3/10

Blue FO/TPO = 1/10 add together 4/20 = 1/5 =0.2 = 20%

p(blue or red then spotted)

Red and blue FO/TPO 4/10

Spotted FO/TPO 3/10 add together 7/20=0.35 =35%

Here is Number Seven from the textbook

A. Bart FO/TPO = 1/6

Bethany Fo/TPO = 1/6 add together 2/12 =0.16 =16.6%

B. Bart FO/TPO = 1/6

Bethany FO/TPO = 1/6 add together 2/16 = 0.16 16.6%

C.Bart FO/TPO =5/6

bethany Fo/TPO= 3/6 add together 8/12 = 0.66 =66.6%

D. Bart FO/TPO = 3/6

Bethany FO/TPO =3/6 add together 6/12 = 0.5 = 50%

E. Bart FO/TPO = 3/6

Bethany FO/TPO = 3/6 add together 6/12 = 0.5 =50%
