Adding Fractions

Question 1: 1 3/4 + 1 1/8= 2 7/8
First off you have add up the whole numbers. So we add 1 to 1 and we get 2 (1+1=2).
Second you have to find the common denominator. So we multiply 4 to 8 and we get 32. (4x8=32). Since the half of 32 is 16, we find out if 4 can go into 16 and if 8 can go into 16.
So first we list the multiples of 4 and 8 (4=4,8,10,12,14,16,20)(8=8,16)(the common factor is 16. So we found out that there was and it was 16.So we put the 16 as a denominator.

Question 2: 2 4/5 + 1 1/2 = 4 3/10
i made denominator because 2x5 is 10.Then I made the numerator 8 because 5 fits into 10, 2 times. Then I made the other numerator 5 because 2 fits into 10, 5 times.I knew that 8=5 would make 13 and 13/10 is an improper fraction so i divided 13 to 10. 13 divided by 10 equals 1 and 3/10. i know there is 3 more wholes so i add 3 to 1 and 3/10 which made 4 and 3/10.

Subtracting Fractions
To subtract fractions, you (once again) must have the same denominator. Once you have that, just subtract the numerators.

Multiplying Fractions
When you multiply fractions, you multiply the numerators, then multiply the denominators.

Multiplying mixed Fractions
To multiply mixed fractions, change the mixed fraction to an improper fraction, then multiply the numerators and denominators.

Dividing Fractions
There are a few ways you can divide fractions.

Dividing improper Fractions

This time, I will also show you how to solve it using a reciprocal. It is the inverse of the denominator.

Adding Mixed Numbers

Question 1:
1 3/4 + 1 1/8= 2 7/8
First off you have add up the whole numbers. So we add 1 to 1 and we get 2 (1+1=2).
Second you have to find the common denominator. So we multiply 4 to 8 and we get 32. (4x8=32). Since the half of 32 is 16, we find out if 4 can go into 16 and if 8 can go into 16.
So first we list the multiples of 4 and 8 (4=4,8,10,12,14,16,20)(8=8,16)(the common factor is 16. So we found out that there was and it was 16.So we put the 16 as a denominator.
I knew 3 quarters of 16 were 12 and 1 eighth of 16 was 2. Then after, you just add the fractions and it would be 14. But since 14 and 16 were equal, i divided it by 2. So the fractions is 7 over 8.

Question 2:
2 4/5 + 1 1/2 = 4 3/10
i made denominator because 2x5 is 10.
Then I made the numerator 8 because 5 fits into 10, 2 times.

Pay It Forward

Before winter break we've watched the movie "Pay it Forward".There's a task that we have to do and that is to do something that you can to pay it forward. In the movie there was a boy that believe that one person can make big difference. In this assignment we have to do any act of kindness. In order to solve that we have a couple of questions that we have to answer:

1.Who are you going help?
2.What are you going to do?
3.When are you going to do this?

During i the winter break i choose to... well i didn't really think of anything. So i had to find one. Well i found out my cousin was coming here to my house. So i figured i would babysit. Well it was the perfect time because my auntie was going to leave my cousin here because she had to go to work. But my mom had to go somewhere.Well i volunteered to do it and she said yes. So she left my little cousin here. It was pretty easy because he was already 5 and he was really fun , like we played video games and ate because my mom left some food for us to eat in case we get hungry. When my mom came back from the groceries there was a big mess, well me and my cousin cleaned it up when they came. When they came my parents took care of them because i had to go. it was really fun helping my aunt and babysitting my little cousin. I was really happy at the end.

The question was if ONE PERSON CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE to my the answer is yes, anyone can make a difference no matter who you are, so start helping anyone out there who needs help!

On Friday we didn't really do anything because
there was a charity presentation going on during our
math period. So we had to stay at the back on the computers
and play one of the math games on the Sargent park blog.
We got to play either battleship

Or this matching game

and we had to write, and answer 10 questions from the game
into our notebooks. Then before the class ended, the presentation
was over and we went back to the smart board and he told us
how to do the next chapter in our poetry.

That is all we did in class.
For next scribe i choose Francis A.

Chapter 1.

Adding Integers (Haiku)

Adding Integers
a way of mathematics
combine integers

Subtracting Integers (Picture Poem)

Partitive Division (Free Verse)

Partitive Division
it's really not that hard
all you have to have is a deck of cards
you divide them fairly
each to everyone
once you have no more then you are done

Quotative division (Haiku)

Dividing, fitting
numbers into equal groups
a special number

The "Rule for Multiplying" Integers (Free Verse)

Multiplying is not that hard
as long as u have Mel's rock pile
when ever there's and even amount of integers
the answer will be positive
when there's an odd number of integers
the answer will be negative
it's very simple
so always keep it in your mind

Chapter 2.

Combining like terms and the Distributive Property

Dell:Hey Mat whatcha doing?

Mat:Oh nothing just trying to finish my math homework for tomorrow.

Dell:Oh really do you need any help?

Mat:Well on this question n+3-5n+12 do you know it? i don't really get it.

Dell:hmmm.. oh i think its -6n+15 im pretty shure.

Mat:oh really how, did you get it?

Dell:oh well first I regrouped it so that the variable is with the variable like this, n-5n+3+12.

Mat:oh okay.

Dell:Then i added the variables together like this, n+-5n which equaled, -4n, because the n still counted as a number which was one.

Mat:Oh i think im catching on.

Dell:then i added the positive 3 to positive 12 which was 15. So my answer would be -4 +15.

Mat:Oh isn't that different from the first one you showed me?

Dell:Oh your right im sorry the one i just told you right now is write. well if you need any more help just tell me.

Mat:Well there is one more.

Dell:Oh really which one?

Mat:Oh um this one its, 2 + 4(3n+8)

Dell:Oh that one is really easy.

Mat:oh really can u help me then?

Dell:Oh well the answer is 12n + 10.

Mat:oh but how did you get that because tomorrow we will be marking the homework, and he said i had to answer the questions.

Dell:Oh first i rearranged the +2 to the back like this 4 (3n+8)+2

Mat:oh ok

Dell:then i had to multiply the four to the numbers in the brackets like this, 4 times 3n Which equals 12n because you always have to bring the variable. then i multiplied 3 to 8 which equaled 24. Then i added the 2 at the back to the 24 because, it had no variable. Which equaled 26. you get the answer of 12n +26

Mat:Oh really that sounds so easy. but that isn't the answer you told me earlier.

Dell:OH! you are right the first answer i told you was wrong. sorry, but do you understand how to answer it?

Mat:Oh it 's OK, and ya i get it thanks a lot!

Dell:no problem! but hey i have to go its almost 8 and my mom is gonna be looking for me.

Mat:oh OK well thanks a lot and Bye

Dell:OK Bye

Chapter 2 - Combining Like Terms and the Distributive Property

Jack:Hey Jill!
Jill:
Hey Jack
Jack:Do you want to go up the hill?
Jill:
No not for today, but I got a new game we could play!
Jack:Okay what is it about?
Jill:It's about math. Combining like terms and the distributive property.
Jack:
Okay, I'll try it.
Jill:Okay, try this question here, It's about distributive property. Here: "2 + 4(3n+8)"
Jack:Just give me some time to think..
(1 minute later)
Jack:Okay, I think I got it now!
Jack:Is the answer 12n + 10!
Jill:
Nope your wrong!
Jill:
The answer is 12n + 34.
Jack:
Oh, now I know where I went wrong here.
Jill:
Okay tell me what you did wrong.
Jack:I got 12n correct, It's just that I forgot to multiply 8 by 4 to get 32, then add the extra 2.
Jill:
Yeah your right!
Jill:Okay now try this question, It's about combining like terms this time.
"n+3-5n+12"
Jack:
Okay give me a little more time now.
(3 minutes later)
Jack:
Okay I think I got it now!
Jack:
Is the answer -6n+15
Jill:Nope wrong again!
Jack:
Just wait, let me find my mistakes again.
(30 seconds later)
Jack:
Oh I know where I went wrong!
Jack:
I added the n to the -5n which would make it -4n but I thought it was -6n!
Jill:Haha yeah, your right again with the corrections!
Jack:
Yeah I seem to correct it all the time.
Jill:
Yeah, want to go up the hill now?
Jack:Okay

One glorious afternoon, Bubba decided to go to his friends house Gump. So he walked to his friends house and on the way he had to walk at least 10 tiles but on the way there he found a shortcut, which reduced tiles by -4, so he had to find out how much tiles he had left to get to his friends house. The question was (10)+(-4). Fortunately for Bubba he had 10 sticks of bubble gum in his pocket, so he chewed 4 pieces this was the question:
Equivalent to 6

So Bubba found out he just had to walk 6 more tiles to his friends house. On his way to his friends house Bubba met his friend Dumbo, Dumbo said to Bubba that he couldn't go home because he owed his mom ($37), but Bubba only had ($17), Bubba being the nice guy he is decided to loan his friend the money he needed to go home, but Bubba didn't know how much to give his friend. So his friend the decided to help figure out how much Bubba should give him. So they knew the question was: (-37)+(+17) Owe 37 and have 17. So Bubba and his friend found 37 rocks and took out 17 rocks and counted what was left. After they counted it they found out it was 20: (-37)+(+17)=20

Owed 37 and have 17
Then Bubba got his friends house but he needed to put a code in. He didn't know what it was so, he looked around to find hints. He found a cheat sheet on the side of the door so he read it.. It said he had to go to the left 5times and to the right 8 times.

He found out that the code +3 so, when he put the code in and the door opened. Bubba friend was waiting for Bubba in the other room. Bubba and Gump was about to play video games but there was a problem. They had to put in another number code in because Gump's parents saw the game was M for mature so they put in a code. The hint for the code was (+7)+(-3). Earlier today before Bubba came, Gump brought cookies downstairs. He had just amount of cookies to figure out the question. So it looked like this.

So they figured it out and it was 4, and they broke the code and played video games. They were
hungry so they ate all the cookies.

Then Gumps parents came and they....

To Be Continued..

Part 2

Gumps parents came and saw him and Bubba playing the m for mature game, and they were not suppose to. When they came in the door they were really mad because there was lots of violence and inappropriate language and images. So they took the game away and told him he can never play the game again. She also said he was grounded for (+3)-(-4) days , but Gump didn't understand how many days was that, so Gump looked in his calender. He moved up 3 days from the 4th, he knew that you can't subtract in integers so, he changed (-4) to (+4) because he knew you had to change it to and opposite. The question know was (+3)+(+4). So he moved up 4 more days and it looked like this:

Which is equivalent to 7 .

So Gump found out he was grounded for 7 days so he was not allowed to play anything for 7days.
As the days passed Gump was really bored it was going to be 7 days in (+3)+(+3)-(+2) minutes his mother said, but he didn't understand her so he figured out his work on a piece of paper like this:

So he found it was just 4 more minutes left until he can play video games again, but unfortunately for Gump he had to sleep because it was about midnight. The next morning Gump woke up and he found a new game on his bed, it was a power rangers game so, he ran all the way downstairs and thanked his parents for the game. He went back to his room and played his video game all day long and never got in trouble ever again.

The End..

Today we talked about "Is It Fair",
because we played a game yesterday and we had to find
If it was fair. The game we played was about probability.
We had to find out if the game was fair because
there was 6/36 chance of the player to win.
So we talked in class to find out the answer for if it was
fair or not.

Next we were given a work sheet about
a probability Gumball Machine experiment.

We had to pull out cubes out of a cup.
There were 4 blue cubes, 3 yellow cubes, 2 green cubes,
and 1 red cube.
1)So first we had to think about which color would
come out more and why.
2)After we had to find out how many times the colors
would come out.
3)we had to pick out colors out of the cup, and keep track of them until we got 10.
4) You have to see how close your results was to your predictions.
5)Then we had to pick out cubes 90 times and keep track of them.
6)we had to combine the 90 and 10 rolls together.
7)Then we had to find the Percent.

For homework we had these 2 questions
1) What is experimental probability?
2) What is theoretical probability?

So for next post i choose ALWIN.T
