### Scribe Post for April 13, 2009

Today, Mr. Harbeck was talking about his kids that can do football and run on balance beams. Something like that. Anyway, one of them had a math problem and it was 1/2 + 1/3.

They thought the answer was 2/5. We were supposed to figure out if he was wrong or right. He was wrong. Just by drawing a picture, you can see that it's not right because 2/5 is less than 1/2 already.

Then we talked about what we needed to add fractions.

What do you need to add fractions?

-common denominator

-same size parts

One way to find the common denominator is to multiply the denominator.

We had to solve 2 other questions using pictures.

Anyway, for homework, we had to solve the following questions using the *math *way and the *picture* way.

2/3 + 1/8

1/4 +3/5

1/6 + 3/4

3/8 +1/6

5/7 + 1/2

1 1/2 + 3/4

For the next scribe, I pick **Shaneille**.
