The Pythagorean Theroem is something we have been learning in math class for about two weeks now.

Vocabulary
legs - the two sides of the right triangle that makes the 90 degree angle (side a and b)
hypotenuse - the longest side of the right triangle (side c)
R.A.T - Right Angle Triangle. Has a 90 degree angle
Greek - a person from Greece and the form of language
theorem - something to be proved from other formulas.

Artifacts

1st
Pythagoras
A Greek mathematician who was born between 580 and 572 BC, he died between 500 and 490 BC. People call him the "father of math and geometry." He was the first person to discover that the earth was round and that it revolved around the sun. He was also the first person to be a vegetarian (a person who only eats vegetables). Pythagoras is also famous for the Pythagorean Theorem.

Pythagorean Theorem

3rd

Right Angle Triangle (R.A.T)

  • 90 degree angle
  • Theta and Beta
  • hypotenuse (side c)
  • legs (side a and b, makes the right angle)
  • half of a rectangle or square

4th
Square

  • 4 - 90 degree angles
  • total - 360 degrees
  • quadrilateral

Questions
We had all sorts of questions concerning the Pythagorean theorem, trying to figure out what a, b, or c was. We also had word problems involving this theorem.
